Comings and Goings

Merrill Lynch

Kirstin Hill is to retire as Merrill Lynch’s Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Hill has been with the company for 25 years. She will remain with the company until the end of May to assist with the transfer of her responsibilities.

She started at Merrill Lynch as an intern and has worked in various offices — Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, New York, and Boston — in different spheres including trading, retirement business, and most recently as COO. She has been on Merrill’s senior leadership team since 2017 and in the COO role since 2020.

Eastspring

Eastspring Investments has appointed Bill Maldonado as Interim CEO, effective since 6 April. His appointment follows Wai-Kwong Seck’s decision to retire after four years as CEO with the company.

To ensure a smooth transition, Seck will remain with Eastspring until the end of June to support Maldonado and the executive team, the company’s statement said.

Singapore-based Eastspring is the asset management business of Prudential plc with $221 billion assets under management.

Maldonado joined Eastspring in August 2021 and is currently the company’s Chief Investment Officer (CIO), a role he will retain in order to focus on investment performance, the company’s statement added. He previously worked with Seck and the executive team on the Eastspring’s corporate growth strategy. He chairs the Eastspring Executive Management Committee and reports to Anil Wadhwani, CEO of Prudential plc.

He has nearly 30 years of asset management experience. Prior to joining Eastspring, Maldonado was the Asia Pacific CIO and Global CIO, Equities, at HSBC Global Asset Management.

Impax Asset Management

Impax Asset Management has appointed Yasumitsu “Yasu” Iwasa as Head of Japan.

Prior to joining Impax in March 2023, Iwasa was Head of Japan at Fullerton Fund Management, the asset management arm of Temasek Group. Before that he was with PIMCO where he led wholesale business development. He began his career at Goldman Sachs where he spent 12 years in equity derivatives and structuring.

His role at Impax is split across executive duties as Country Head and as a Product Specialist within Impax’s Distribution team. He reports to Paul Voûte, Head of Distribution, Europe & Asia-Pacific.

Iwasa’s appointment follows the announcement in March that Impax would be opening a Japan office, following its selection by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to receive a Green Finance Subsidy Program for Tokyo Market Entry.

Harbourfront Group

Vancouver-based Harbourfront Group, which includes Harbourfront Wealth Management, has promoted Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Leonard Trigg to President of Willoughby Asset Management, the investment fund manager arm of the Group.

Trigg has worked with a range of companies in Canada, the United States, and Switzerland in roles including operations, regulatory compliance, technology, and sales.

He joined Harbourfront in 2021, previously he was at Vertex One Asset Management as CTO and later COO. He also worked at SPIRIT Blockchain Capital and BlocPal International.

Trigg will continue as a member of Harbourfront Wealth Management’s executive leadership team as CTO, the role in which he oversaw the development of the Group’s technological platforms.

The Harbourfront Wealth Management Group was found in 2013 and is a Canadian-owned independent wealth management and planning advisory group. It has 28 branches across the country.
